On Starting a Blog

Posted by Michael Hunger on Jun 21, 2007 in Uncategorized |

While swimming alone in the public pool this night around ten PM I thought about some things. And as I don’t want to loose these thoughts I finally decided to start a blog myself. We’ll see. I think I just randomly record thoughts about my family, software development and life in general (like most of those other bloggers do).
Perhaps I have the time to record some of the events of the recent months which were important to me.

Today I started reading ”Agile Retrospectives” from Diana Larsen. I won it for asking the best question at the closing panel of
QCon 2007. And I got it with the signatures of Diana Larsen, Martin Fowler, Jeff Sutherland, Eric Meijers and Dan North, which makes me especially proud. By now the book is quite interesting. I’d like to have some more samples and stories in it. The structure and activities for performing the retrospective seem quite helpful. But I doubt I’ll be holding any retrospective in the near future.

I tried to finish ”Refactoring to Patterns” by Josh Kerievsky which is quite handsome to introduce people to larger, multistep refactorings with a purpose. Just skimming the pages looking for neat explanations and perhaps new insights.

As being member of the it-sta-ti a group of software engineer friends I asked for some thoughts on managing utilities. I got an interesting follow up up from Foobar.

While swimming at midsummers night my thoughts circled around the recurring theme of fluent interfaces, healthy business objects, roles and views used in domain processes and the like. Perhaps an concept like [[Software/BOA]] business object agents can bring all of it together?
